The vaginal microbiota composition of women undergoing assisted reproduction: A prospective cohort study

BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Jun 04, 2021

Karaer A, Doğan B, Günal S, et al. - Researchers conducted a prospective cohort study with the aim to determine the influence of vaginal microbiota on pregnancy outcomes in women undergoing assisted reproduction. From 223 women undergoing ART treatment, vaginal samples were obtained from the posterior fornix prior to embryo transfer. Women who failed to become pregnant showed greater relative abundance of Streptococcus (7.81%) and Gardnerella (9.40%). Linear discriminant analysis (LDA) validated that Streptococcus has the greatest contribution to the distinction between women who became pregnant and those who failed to become pregnant.
