The use of preoperative aspirin in cardiac surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Journal of Cardiac Surgery | Dec 07, 2017
Aboul-Hassan SS, et al. - Regarding the use of preoperative aspirin in cardiac surgery, this systematic review and meta-analysis reported that although preoperative aspirin increased the risk for postoperative bleeding, neither this resulted in an increased need for chest re-exploration nor increased the rates of packed red blood cell transfusion when administered at a low-dose (≤160 mg/d) preoperatively. Notably, decreased mortality and acute kidney injury was reported in association with the use of aspirin at any dose and low-dose aspirin (≤160 mg/d) decreased the incidence of perioperative myocardial infarction.
