The role of preoperative steroids for hearing preservation cochlear implantation: Results of a randomized controlled trial

Kuthubutheen J, et al. - Researchers ascertained if preoperative steroids improved the hearing outcomes in cochlear implantation (CI). A beneficial effect could be achieved in the hearing outcomes due to a single dose of preoperative transtympanic steroids prior to CI, at least in the short term. Minimal effects were noted in the longer term.
