The risk stratification and prognostic prediction value of procalcitonin and clinical severity scores on patients with community-acquired pneumonia in Emergency Department
The American Journal of Emergency Medicine Apr 03, 2018
Zhou H, et al. - Researchers investigate the risk stratification and prognostic prediction value of precalcitonin (PCT) and clinical severity scores in patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in Emergency Department (ED). Calculation and comparison of CURB65, PSI, SOFA and qSOFA scores were performed between the severe CAP (SCAP) and non-severe CAP (NSCAP) group or the death and survival group. Outcomes suggested that for SCAP, serum PCT is a valuable single predictor for SCAP. In prediction of 28-day mortality, SOFA proved superior. Combination of PCT and SOFA might lead to improvement in the performance of single predictors.
