The relationship between the thickness of glomerular basement membrane and renal outcomes in patients with diabetic nephropathy
Acta Diabetologica Apr 08, 2018
Zhang J, et al. - Authors inspected the association between the thickness of glomerular basement membrane (GBM) and diabetic nephropathy (DN) progression in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) who received follow-up for at least 1 year. Individuals with GBM thickness ≥ 787 nm exhibited more serious renal insufficiency and glomerular lesions. The occurrence of ESRD was noted in 39.8% of patients, and 8.5% of patients progressed to doubling of serum creatinine (D-Cr) during the follow-up. The inference drawn was that the DN patients with a greater width of GBM presented with a considerably poorer renal prognosis. However, it did not emerge as an independent indicator of disease progression.
