The relationship between sleep and cognitive function in patients with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes
Acta Diabetologica Jun 09, 2018
Saetung S, et al. - Experts scrutinized the connection between sleep and cognitive function of patients with abnormal glucose tolerance. This study was conducted on one hundred sixty-two patients (81 type 2 diabetes and 81 prediabetes). Using 7-day actigraphy recordings, sleep duration and sleep efficiency (an indicator of sleep quality) were obtained. Using an overnight in-home monitor, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) was screened. Results revealed that sleep duration and OSA severity were not associated with Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scores. It was observed in the findings that in patients with abnormal glucose tolerance, lower sleep efficiency was independently correlated with the lower cognitive function.
