The prognostic significance of intratumoral heterogeneity of 18F-FDG uptake in patients with oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma

European Journal of Radiology Apr 22, 2019

Kimura M, et al. - Sixty-two patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma who underwent resective surgery were retrospectively analyzed to determine the prognostic significance of two major indices of intratumoral heterogeneity of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose uptake by positron emission tomography/computed tomography (specifically heterogeneity index (HI) and heterogeneity factor) in these patients. As per univariate and multivariate analyses, there was an association of higher HI levels with poorer overall survival and an association of higher total lesion glycolysis levels with poorer disease-free survival.
