The prognostic importance of duration of AKI: A systematic review and meta-analysis
BMC Nephrology Apr 26, 2018
Mehta S, et al. - Researchers analyzed data from published studies (human, longitudinal studies with patients aged 18 or above) to determine the influence of duration of acute kidney injury (AKI) on outcomes. AKI duration of ≤2 days, was categorized as “Short” or labeled as “transient AKI”; AKI durations 3–6 days as “Medium” and AKI duration of ≥7 days as “Long” or “non-recovered”. For the systematic review, 18 studies were deemed eligible. Duration of AKI was found to be independently related to long-term mortality, cardiovascular events, and development of incident chronic kidney disease stage 3.
