The negative impact of body mass index on the tumor microenvironment in colon cancer: Results of a prospective trial
Annals of Surgical Oncology Apr 13, 2018
Flaherty DC, et al. - Researchers investigated if mismatch repair deficiency in colon cancer may be associated with a lower Body Mass Index (BMI) and improved patient outcome due to an enhanced tumor immune microenvironment. In patients with colon cancer, tumor mismatch repair status and obesity were identified to be correlated. As per the multivariable analysis, CD4+, CD8+, and number of tumor-positive lymph nodes were noted to be correlated with disease-free survival for patients with mismatch repair-proficient tumors.
