The natural course of nonculprit coronary artery lesions; analysis by serial quantitative coronary angiography
BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Jul 04, 2018
Kang J, et al. - Given that nonculprit lesions are the major cause of future cardiovascular events, researchers studied the natural course of nonculprit lesions, as well as the predictors of unanticipated future events and angiographic progression in nonculprit lesions. Researchers looked at 640 nonculprit lesions with a length of ≥ 2 mm and luminal narrowing ≥ 30%. Nonculprit-ischemia driven revascularization (IDR) and the rate of diameter stenosis (DS) progression were the outcomes of interest. “Rapid progressors” were those with progression of DS > 12% a year. Findings of 2-year follow up revealed that incidence of nonculprit-IDR was not uncommon. Diabetes and lesion type B2/C were identified as major risk factors of nonculprit lesion progression.
