The mediating role of psychological symptoms on falls risk among older adults with osteoarthritis

Mat S, et al. - In order to explain the relationship between osteoarthritis (OA) symptom severity and falls, the researchers examined the role of fear of falling (FoF) and psychological symptoms. Compared to mild symptoms, severe symptoms correlated with the increased falls risk was attenuated by FoF, in clinical OA. Thus, FoF could be a potentially modifiable risk factor for OA-associated falls which might be considered in future intervention studies.
