The influence of orthodontic treatment on dental caries: An Australian cohort study
Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology Jan 23, 2019
Dogramaci EJ, et al. - In 2005-2006, investigators assessed 1859 candidates of 30 years from Adelaide, South Australia, comprising 47% of cases who had previously taken part in an oral epidemiology study in 1988-1989 to examine the impact of orthodontic treatment on long-term caries experience and also to analyze the incidence of caries experience in subjects with previous orthodontic treatment. They did not record a significant lower decayed, missing and filled teeth (DMFT) score at age 30 in the previous orthodontically treated participants. No correlation between orthodontic treatment and decayed, missing, or filled teeth or overall DMFT was noted in adjusted models controlling for socio-demographic, dental health behavior and malocclusion status.
