The incidence of distal radius fractures in a Swedish pediatric population - An observational cohort study of 90,970 individual fractures
BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders Jun 24, 2021
Südow H, et al. - During childhood, 40%–50% of all boys and 30%–40 % of girls suffer at least one fracture. Wrist is affected in a quarter of these fractures, making it to be the worst affected part of the body. As a lifestyle change has been observed among European children during the last decades, fracture incidence may have also changed. For conducting this observational cohort study, they retrieved registry data from the Swedish National Patient Register for all pediatric patients registered with a distal radius fracture during the period 2005–2013. Assessing data of 90,970 identified distal radius fractures, males were identified as having a higher incidence of these fractures in this patient population relative to their female counterparts. Lower incidence was recorded in 2008–2013 as compared with 2005.
