The impact of CRRT modality in patients with AKI receiving ECMO: A nationwide registry study in Taiwan

Journal of Critical Care Feb 13, 2020

Lee CC, Chen SW, Cheng YL, et al. - In the present study, the researchers sought to analyze the effect of different continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) modalities on survival in patients with acute kidney injury (AKI) receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) using claims data from Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database. In total, 1,077 individuals (mean age was 57.9) who received ECMO and either continuous venovenous hemofiltration (CVVH) or continuous venovenous hemodialysis (CVVHD) for AKI were identified. The most frequently reported indication for ECMO was a postcardiotomy shock. CVVH may be linked to a lower risk of in-hospital mortality in AKI patients receiving ECMO compared with CVVHD.
