The frequency, reasoning, and impact of repeated radiographs at the initial orthopaedic arthroplasty visit
Journal of Arthroplasty Jul 27, 2021
Yayac M, Toci GR, Smith EB, et al. - This study was carried out to ascertain the frequency, reason, and impact of repeating radiographs in outpatient orthopedic clinics. Researchers prospectively enrolled patients ≥ 18 years old presenting with hip and/or knee pain at five arthroplasty surgeon clinics from January 2019 until June 2020. The study enrolled a total of 292 patients, 256 patients (88%) had radiographs prior to their office visit, and 167 patients (65%) obtained repeat radiographs. As per the findings, the majority of patients had undergone repeat radiography at their orthopedic visit. Furthermore, the preliminary reasons were due to accessibility or the patient being non-weight-bearing. It was shown that repeat radiographs changed management in almost one-quarter of patients.
