The fertility willingness and acceptability of preimplantation genetic testing in Chinese patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease
BMC Nephrology Apr 30, 2020
Sun M, Xue C, Lu Y, et al. - Given that preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) has afforded the opportunity to block the inheritance of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) as early as possible, but still patients’ fertility intentions as well as their acceptance of PGT should be known and to inquire about these, researchers surveyed 260 patients with ADPKD aged 18–45 years in 7 hospitals from January 2018 to December 2018. They found a significant impact of age and education level on fertility intentions of ADPKD patients. Overall, findings revealed a low reproductive desire of childbearing ADPKD patients in China. PGT technology would be preferred by 207 (79.6%) of the overall patients who were willing to have children. Improved fertility intentions and reduction in the hindrances to acceptance of PGT may be achieved by strengthening the health education of ADPKD genetic knowledge and decreasing the expense of associated technologies.
