The effects of omega-3 fatty acid supplementation on inflammatory factors in HIV-infected patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials

Cytokine Sep 26, 2020

Morvaridzadeh M, Sepidarkish M, Yavari M, et al. - Researchers investigated the beneficial impacts of omega-3 fatty acids (omega-3 FAs) on controlling inflammation in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected patients, by performing this systematic review and meta-analysis. All potentially relevant studies published until June 2020 were identified from major biomedical databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, Web of Science and Cochrane library. Experts analyzed nine RCTs with a total of 427 participants. Findings demonstrated that significant reduction in serum C-reactive protein levels was afforded by supplementation of omega-3 FAs in HIV-infected patients vs the control group, however, such supplementation did not significantly influence IL-6 and TNF-α levels.
