The detrimental effect of cell phone radiation on sperm biological characteristics in normozoospermic

Andrologia Oct 14, 2021

Hassanzadeh-Taheri M, Khalili MA, Mohebati AH, et al. - Findings demonstrate a detrimental impact of cell phone waves on human sperm's biological features. Hence, cell phones should be kept away from the pelvis as much as possible.

  • Normal sperm samples were categorized as control and case.

  • Samples from the case were placed for 60 min at a distance of about 2.5 cm from the cell phone set in the active antenna position, and control samples were exposed to cell phones without active antennas.

  • Applying World Health Organization criteria, all specimens were examined.

  • Significantly lower viability and motility was seen in samples from the case vs controls.

  • Case samples showed a significantly higher percentage of apoptotic sperms and DNA fragmentation than controls.

  • No significant difference in other parameters, such as morphology, chromatin abnormality, and maturity, was seen between the case and control groups.
