The association of perioperative glycemic control with adverse outcomes within 6 months after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair

Arthroscopy Apr 27, 2019

Cancienne JM, et al. - Investigators quantified 3740 individuals to examine the relationship between glycemic control and adverse events following arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (RCR). They observed a statistically significant increase in the risk of infection after RCR in subjects with diabetes mellitus with an incline in perioperative HbA1c level. They also recorded that a perioperative HbA1c level above 8.0 mg/dL could serve as a threshold level. Although, the poor utility of this test was reflected by the area under the curve and low sensitivity as an independent predictor. They did not find any relation of increased perioperative HbA1c levels with the rates of revision rotator cuff surgery or LOA-MUA after RCR.
