The association of low hemoglobin levels with IgA nephropathy progression: A two-center cohort study of 1,828 cases
American Journal of Nephrology Jul 24, 2020
Zhu B, Liu W, Yu D, et al. - This study is done with a two-center cohort of 1,828 cases with biopsy-confirmed IgA nephropathy (IgAN), to examine the link between hemoglobin levels and the progression of IgAN. Experts investigated the correlation of hemoglobin concentrations with the primary outcome of a composite of all-cause death or kidney failure, or ESKD, or the outcome of kidney failure, evaluated employing Cox and logistic regression models, respectively, with adjustment for confounders. In this study, a low level of hemoglobin was shown to be nonlinearly related to IgAN progression. A higher risk of developing poor results was observed in anemic IgAN patients vs nonanemic patients.
