The association of hand and wrist injuries with other injuries in multiple trauma patients. A retrospective study in a UK major trauma center
Injury Apr 16, 2021
Tsinaslanidis P, Smithb TO, Brown OS, et al. - Researchers conducted a single center retrospective study at a level-one UK Major Trauma Centre (MTC) with the aim to determine the incidence, injury pattern and association of hand and wrist injuries with other body injuries and the Injury Severity Score (ISS) in trauma patients who have multiple injuries. They analyzed a total of 107 patients. In this series, hand and wrist injuries were the second most common injury (26.2%), after thoracic injuries. Observations suggested a significant correlation between a hand or wrist injury and a lower limb or pelvic injury. Based on findings, they recommend clinicians to carefully screen for hand and wrist injuries in this population.
