Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Dec 12, 2018
Pizzol D, et al. - Among 42,469 community-dwelling adults (aged ≥18 years) in six low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), researchers assessed the association between diabetes and cataract. For this investigation, researchers analyzed cross-sectional, community-based data from the Study on Global Ageing and Adult Health (SAGE). They found that the prevalence of diabetes was 3.1% and that of cataract based on the three different definitions was 13.3%, 4.4%, 1.7%. In LMICs, a strong connection was noted between diabetes and cataract. Among those aged <50 years, these associations were especially pronounced.
