The association between chronic kidney disease, falls, and fractures: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Osteoporosis International Nov 21, 2019
Goto NA, Weststrate ACG, Oosterlaan FM., et al. - All retrospective, cross-sectional, and longitudinal studies of adults (18 years or older) that examined the correlation between CKD, fractures, and falls (n = 39) were involved in this systematic review and meta-analysis in order to evaluate whether, and in which degree, CKD was related to falls and fractures in adults. Usually, with the greatest risks in the individuals with stage 5 CKD or dialysis, the risk of fractures progressed when kidney function got worse. This influence was most asserted for hip fractures and any type of fractures. Moreover, results on the relationship between CKD and accidental falling were conflicting. In comparison with the general population, in persons with CKD, fractures are profoundly common. Besides more awareness of timely fracture risk evaluation, more focus on fall prevention should be given.
