The added value of health indicators to mortality predictions in old age: A systematic review
European Journal of Internal Medicine Jul 19, 2018
Kusumastuti S, et al. - This systematic review was undertaken to assess the accuracy of health indicators in predicting all-cause mortality among people aged 50+ using area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), as well as evaluated the added value of health indicators relative to demographic variables. The quality of studies was also examined using the Checklist for Critical Appraisal and Data Extraction for Systematic Reviews of Prediction Modelling Studies. Findings revealed that age and sex contributed the most to mortality predictions in old age. The outcomes suggested that the added value of health indicators was likely to be limited. Researchers found that the lack of validation samples made it difficult to evaluate their true added value.
