Ten-year ablation outcomes of patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation receiving pulmonary vein isolation
Heart Rhythm May 30, 2019
Cheng WH, et al. - Researchers examined ablation outcomes over 10 years in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) and assessed long-term follow-up findings post-pulmonary vein isolation (PVI). Participants were patients (n=176) with drug-refractory symptomatic PAF who had electroanatomic-guided PVI (mean age 51.2 ± 12.1 years; 131 men). These subjects were retrospectively enrolled. They found that modest long-term effectiveness was demonstrated by a single-procedure, with 58% freedom from atrial fibrillation at 10 years. More atrial tachyarrhythmia recurrences were reported in those who had enlarged left atrial diameters. Findings revealed comparable 10-year single-procedure outcomes with circumferential PVI and segmental PVI in patients with PAF.
