Symptomatic cord compression by paraspinal musculature following cervical laminectomy: Rare complication
European Spine Journal Jul 09, 2018
Tu PH, et al. - Authors assessed the frequency and pathogenesis of spinal cord compression (SSCC) by paraspinal musculature (PSM) after cervical laminectomy. Findings suggested the rare but devastating nature of SSCC by PSM after cervical laminectomy, especially in those patients with preoperative kyphosis, prior antiplatelet treatment, and decompression with prone position. The ideal tool for the identification of this complication was MRI. A good clinical outcome could be achieved by rapid cervical cord decompression and avoidance of recurrent compressive events.
