Sutureless enterostomy for extremely low birth weight infants

Journal of Pediatric Surgery Sep 08, 2017

Ohashi K, et al. - Researchers here presented their new “sutureless enterostomy” technique meant to prevent serious stoma-related complications such as stoma side perforation, prolapse, fall and surgical site infection. The preliminary observations revealed that this new “sutureless enterostomy” was safely performed and reduced the risk of stoma-related complications. They suggested the procedure as an ideal procedure for the extremely low birth weight infants (ELBWIs) with meconium obstruction of prematurity (MOP) or spontaneous intestinal perforation (SIP).
