Survival trends in infants undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant

JAMA Apr 17, 2019

Parikh SH, et al. - Researchers analyzed a total of 2,498 infants who underwent allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant (a median age of 7 months; range, <1-12 months) for overall survival trends and other outcomes. In this cohort study, using time-trend analysis, 2000 through 2004, 2005 through 2009, and 2010 through 2014 were the three time periods evaluated. From 2000 through 2004 to 2005 through 2009, they noted improvement in survival rates for infants with nonmalignant diseases; these rated remained stable thereafter. No improvement in survival was noted from 2000 through 2014 for infants with malignant conditions. They emphasize developing strategies to limit relapse and toxicity and improve donor and graft selection to achieve improved outcomes in the future in these patients.
