Surgical intervention in gastric carcinoid is associated with improved survival in local and regional disease

American Journal of Clinical Oncology Aug 30, 2018

Callahan AF, et al. - Experts aspired to explore whether surgical intervention in patients with local, regional, and metastatic gastric carcinoid was associated with prolonged survival. They identified 1012 subjects with a diagnosis of gastric carcinoid. In patients with both local and regional disease, prolonged survival was related to gastric surgery. The most significant predictor of overall outcome was the biology of the disease. When technically feasible and where comorbidities allow, aggressive endoscopic or surgical intervention should be offered for local and locoregional diseases, respectively.
