Surface characteristics and biocompatibility of cranioplasty titanium implants following different surface treatments
Dental Materials Feb 08, 2018
Hatamleh MM, et al. - During this study, the effects of titanium finishing protocols on the surface morphology, hardness, and biocompatibility of TiAl6V4 were evaluated. A variable effect of different finishing treatments was reported on the cranioplasty titanium surface loss, micro-roughness, and micro-hardness. However, a constant, improved biocompatibility effect was noted. Less material loss was caused by the electrochemical treatment along with the production of a biocompatible smoothest surface of comparable hardness. Therefore, for cranioplasty titanium surface finishing, it could prove to be suitable.
