18F-FDG PET/CT optimizes treatment in Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia and is associated with reduced mortality

Berrevoets MAH, et al. - This study was conducted to examine the role of 18F-FDG PET/CT in patients with Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia (SAB) for detection of metastatic infection and its consequences for treatment and outcome. For early detection of metastatic infectious foci, 18F-FDG PET/CT was seen to be a valuable technique, often leading to treatment modification. Performing 18F-FDG PET/CT was correlated with significantly reduced 3-mo mortality.
