Success of two-stage reimplantation in patients requiring an interim spacer exchange
Journal of Arthroplasty Mar 31, 2018
George J, et al. - The authors determined the factors related to patients who received a repeat-spacer and compared the infection-free survival (overall and stratified by joint type) of reimplantation in patients who did or did not receive a repeat-spacer. More comorbidities, prolonged treatment period, and more likelihood to be infected with a resistant organism were seen in patients requiring an interim spacer exchange. Within 5 years, about one-third of such patients became re-infected vs only one-fifth of the patients without an interim spacer exchange.
