Success of non-surgical periodontal therapy in adult periodontitis patients: A retrospective analysis

Van der Weijden GA, et al. - Researchers evaluated the results of patients diagnosed with adult periodontitis treated with active non-surgical treatment, which involved professional oral hygiene instruction, scaling and root planing, supragingival polishing and elective systemic antimicrobial medication, at a specialized clinic for periodontology. In total, 1182 patients received active non-surgical therapy with approximately one-third of the cases achieving the success endpoint of periodontal pocket depth ≤ 5mm. As per sub-analysis, tooth type, furcation involvement, severity of periodontal disease at intake and smoking status were identified influencing the outcome.
