Success and survival of endodontically treated cracked teeth with radicular extensions: A 2- to 4-year prospective cohort
Journal of Endodontics May 25, 2019
Davis MC, et al. - In this prospective study, researchers examined 70 endodontically treated, coronally restored, cracked teeth, specifically where the crack extends beyond the level of the canal orifice internally, for the 2- to 4-year success and survival rates. They identified 59 teeth as eligible for survival analysis, and there were 53 teeth available for success analysis. As per findings, cracked teeth with radicular extensions may be similar to endodontically treated teeth in general, regarding the success and survival rates and these may be higher than previously reported in cracked tooth studies. Improvement in treatment outcomes in cracked teeth with radicular extensions could be achieved by using the following protocols: microscope-assisted intraorifice barriers placed apical to the extent of the crack, complete occlusal reduction, specific postoperative instructions, and expeditious placement of a full-coverage restoration.
