Statin use and the risk of Clostridium difficile infection: A systematic review with meta-analysis
Infection and Drug Resistance | Mar 31, 2018
Tariq R, et al. - The association between statin use and Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) has been investigated in a systematic review and meta-analysis. The rate of CDI was 4.3% in patients with statin use, compared to 7.8% in patients without statin use. Meta-analyses of existing studies suggested decreased risk for CDI among patients prescribed a statin. Researchers, however, recommended interpreting the results with caution given the significant heterogeneity and lack of benefit on analysis of studies that adjusted for confounders.
