SRS-22r legacy scores can be accurately translated to PROMIS scores in adult spinal deformity patients

The Spine Journal Sep 21, 2019

Ibaseta A, et al. - Via a retrospective cohort study of a total of 158 adult spinal deformity (ASD) surgery patients taken from an ongoing registry of patients who underwent spine surgery at a tertiary care center from 2015–2017, experts produced and confirmed a method to translate SRS-22r scores to Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) scores in surgical ASD patients. The following important correlations were obtained— PROMIS Pain Interference was reliant on age and SRS-22r Pain, Physical Function, and Patient Satisfaction; PROMIS Physical Function was reliant on age and SRS-22r Pain and Physical Function; PROMIS Anxiety was reliant on SRS-22r Mental Health; PROMIS Depression was reliant on age and SRS-22r Mental Health; and PROMIS Satisfaction with Social Roles was reliant on age and SRS-22r Pain, Physical Function, Mental Health, and Patient Satisfaction. Among estimated and actual PROMIS scores in the validation cohort, relationships were strong to very strong. Thus, using the former model, PROMIS scores estimated from SRS-22r scores correspond strongly with actual PROMIS scores. Moreover, in all assessed domains for ASD individuals, SRS-22r scores may be translated to PROMIS scores. Orthopedic surgeons could use this method to contrast legacy measures with PROMIS scores.
