Atherosclerosis Mar 12, 2020
Ramezankhani A, et al. - Researchers determined if there exists a link between the presence of metabolic risk factors in one spouse and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the other spouse. This study involved 4,390 married participants, including 2,152 men and 2,238 women without CVD at baseline, aged ≥ 20 years. A median follow-up of 16.1 years was performed, during which, a total of 588 (419 men) cases of CVD were documented. According to the findings, an increased risk of CVD was observed among spouses of women who were overweight and obese, such an increase in risk was beyond the effect of the spouses’ own risk factors.
