Socioeconomic position and use of healthcare in the last year of life: A systematic review and meta-analysis
PLoS Medicine May 07, 2019
Davies JM, et al. - In this systematic review and meta-analysis of 209 studies, researchers synthesized and quantified the associations between measures of socioeconomic position (SEP)—including income, education, occupation, private medical insurance status, housing tenure, housing quality, or area-based deprivation—and use of healthcare in the last year of life. According to findings, low SEP is a risk factor for hospital death in high-income countries as well as other indicators of end-of-life care of potentially poor quality, with evidence of a dose response indicating that inequality persists throughout the social spectrum.
