Oncology Aug 30, 2018
Motoori M, et al. - In a total of 83 patients with esophageal cancer undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) followed by esophagectomy, researchers assessed the impact of sarcopenia, changes in body composition, and adverse events during NACT on postoperative complications. They evaluated body composition before chemotherapy and before esophagectomy. Findings revealed that, loss of skeletal muscle mass during NACT was identified as a significant risk factor for postoperative infectious complications in patients with esophageal cancer.
