Single-injection versus multiple-injection technique of ultrasound-guided paravertebral blocks: A randomized controlled study comparing dermatomal spread

Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine Aug 24, 2017

Uppal V, et al. – This current investigation was meant to determine the extent of dermatomal spread following an ultrasound–guided thoracic paravertebral block (PVB) when equal volumes of local anesthetic were injected at 1 versus 5 vertebral levels. Findings demonstrated that dermatomal spread and duration of analgesia offered by an ultrasound–guided single–injection PVB was equivalent to that provided by a multiple–injection PVB. Due to less performance time, the single–injection technique might be preferred over a multiple–injection technique.
