Single dose moxidectin vs ivermectin for Onchocerca volvulus infection in Ghana, Liberia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo: A randomised, controlled, double-blind phase 3 trial
The Lancet Jan 31, 2018
Opoku NO, et al. - During this study, authors undertook a comparative assessment of the parasitological efficacy and safety of moxidectin and ivermectin for the treatment of Onchocerca volvulus infection. Data disclosed lower skin microfilarial loads (ie, parasite transmission reservoir) following moxidectin treatment when compared to ivermectin treatment. Hence, moxidectin would aid in reducing the parasite transmission between treatment rounds more than ivermectin could, thereby accelerating progress towards elimination.
