Single dose azithromycin for the treatment of Haemophilus ducreyi skin ulcers in Papua New Guinea

González–Beiras C, et al. – Thie work was designed to assess the efficacy of single oral dose azithromycin on Haemophilus ducreyi (HD)– cutaneous ulcers (CU). Clinical resolution and PCR conversion to HD–negative suggested a single oral dose of azithromycin as efficacious for the treatment of HD–CU. These results have implications for the treatment of individual patients and for the use of antibiotics in public health strategies to control CU in the tropics.
