Short-term blood pressure changes have a more strong impact on stroke and its subtypes than long-term blood pressure changes

Guo R, Xie Y, Zheng J, et al. - In a prospective cohort study involving adults in rural China, researchers determined whether short-term changes in blood pressure (BP) have a stronger impact on stroke and its subtypes than long-term changes in BP. According to findings, 1,014 and 1,505 strokes occurred in short-and long-term groups during a median 12.5-year follow-up period. Investigators found that both short- and long-terms BP changes were linked to the risk of stroke events. Specifically, short-term changes in BP had a greater impact on the risk of stroke events than long-term changes.
