Short and mid-term outcomes and functional results in metal-on-metal hip resurfacing arthroplasty at 5 years follow-up: The Spanish experience
BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders Apr 23, 2019
Perez-Moro OS, et al. - Data were studied to quantify 5-year survival and functional outcomes of Birmingham hip resurfacing (BHR) arthroplasty in young Spanish subjects with osteoarthritis in this observational, prospective, cohort study. Investigators estimated 95.74% of 5-year survival rate of the prosthesis and 10-year survival of 92.92%. At 5-year follow-up, Harris hip score significantly increased from 41.13 to 97.63. They also noted 3.89 and 3.47 months of the average time for returning to work and sporting activities, respectively. They overall suggested BHR arthroplasty with good implant survival, improvement in patients’ functionality and a swift return to work and physical activities after surgery.
