Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Apr 22, 2019
Magnuson JA, et al. - Data from 1010 individuals were analyzed to evaluate the sex-related differences in subjects undergoing surgery for shoulder instability. A significantly higher activity score and a higher rate of traumatic instability and the rate of initial instability while playing sports were noticed in male patients. Whereas female candidates were observed with significantly lower preoperative American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, Western Ontario Shoulder Instability Index, 36-Item Health Survey, and Single Assessment Numeric Evaluation scores. Intraoperatively, they found higher rates of capsular laxity in women and higher rates of labral pathology and bone loss in men.
