Severe spontaneous epistaxis: Retrospective study in a tertiary ENT center

European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology Mar 25, 2019

Marin E, et al. - In the University Hospital of Ghent between 2005 and 2012, investigators examined 124 cases to assess the clinical characteristics and consequences of various treatment approaches in spontaneous severe epistaxis cases. They observed arterial hypertension as the most common comorbidity found in 73% of cases. They recorded one or more antithrombotics intake in 61% of candidates. They noted endoscopic sphenopalatine artery ligation, the most frequently performed surgery. They reported no significant variation between the recurrence rates and demand for a vascular intervention of the several comorbidities and medications.
