Serum level of interleukin-22 in patients with cutaneous warts: A case-control study
Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology May 28, 2021
El-Sayed Mahmoud Marie R, Abuzeid AQEM, Attia FM, et al. - Researchers conducted this case-control study to evaluate serum levels of interleukin-22 (IL-22) in patients with warts and its association with their different clinical features. The sample consisted of 20 patients with warts and 20 control individuals. Through enzyme-linked immune sorbent assay, serum concentration of IL-22 was measured. In patients with warts, the serum level of IL-22 was elevated. Patients with recurrent warts after prior treatment had significantly higher levels than patients with first-time warts. Furthermore, a significant positive correlation was found between serum IL-22 levels and the number of warts. As a result, IL-22 may play an important role in the antiviral immune response to this infection.
