Serum glutathione S-transferase Pi as predictor of the outcome and acute kidney injury in premature newborns

Pediatric Nephrology Jun 08, 2018

Stojanovic VD, et al. - In this prospective study, researchers tested the value of serum glutathione S-transferase Pi (GST Pi) levels determined after birth in predicting the outcome and development of acute kidney injury (AKI) in premature neonates. They analyzed data regarding morbidity for all the neonates and blood samples obtained in the first 6 h of life as well as GST Pi levels. They reported an increased mortality and development of AKI in relation to high levels of serum GST Pi in the first 6 h after birth in prematurely born neonates. They noted that compared with neonates without AKI, the neonates with AKI had a higher mean value of GST Pi levels.
