Serum anti-recoverin antibodies is found in elderly patients with retinitis pigmentosa and cancer
Acta Ophthalmologica Feb 15, 2020
Sato T, Nishiguchi KM, Fujita K, et al. - In the present study, the researchers screened for anti-recoverin antibodies in elderly patients with retinitis pigmentosa (RP), aged 50 to 80 years, who had received a genetic test for RP and endeavored to evaluate the role of the autoantibodies in RP. Serum from 75 RP individuals who had been tested for mutations in a panel of 83 RP genes and 73 normal controls were screened for anti-recoverin antibodies by Western blot utilizing recombinant recoverin, retinal lysate from a marmoset and commercial anti-recoverin antibodies as a control. Findings suggested that serum anti-recoverin antibodies can be detected with identified pathogenic mutations in typical RP individuals and that a history of cancer may increase the risk of developing anti-recoverin antibodies.
