Sentinel-node biopsy in early stage ovarian cancer: Preliminary results of a prospective multicentre study (SELLY)
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology May 18, 2019
Uccella S, et al. - Researchers undertook the SEntineL LYmph Nodes in early-stage ovarian cancer (SELLY) trial, a prospective study, in order to test the predictive value of sentinel node detection for nodal status in a cohort of women with early EOC. They included 31 patients; of these, 21 had sentinel node (detection rate 67.7%). Women undergoing immediate vs delayed staging had significantly higher detection rate. However, findings show the feasibility of performing sentinel node procedure. The procedure seems to have potential to provide reliable and useful information on nodal status and may help to avoid systematic lymphadenectomy in the majority of patients.
